Resource allocation 25 more or 25 less
  • With less
  • Drop the student option on the MSCA
  • Reduce the variety of software available in the
    clusters
  • With More
  • Add student options to existing licenses, such
as Maple, Matlab, Adobe, and Macromedia
  • Add additional applications/support to the
    Microsoft license

17
Issues
  • Typical user does not read or pay attention to
    terms of license
  • Work-at-home rights are very costly
  • There is a diverse set of needs and limited
fundingWhat is a fair and equitable way to spend
the money in the software fund
  • Divisional software
  • Which acquisitions
  • Extent of involvement

18
Next Steps
  • Better strategy for communicating licensing
    terms
  • Revise web pages. Simplify layout. Add some
    licensing information to download pages
  • Cost of WAH rights
  • Reduce collection in labs and divert funds to
    work-at-home options for major licenses
  • Fair and Equitable way to spend funds
  • Re-establish faculty advisory committee
  • Review current guidelines and revise if necessary

19
Next Steps
  • Divisional software
  • Handle licensing for all production services,
    coordinate all licensing for cross-directorial
    purchases, and assist with language
