Introduction

• Contacts of new positive TB cases represent high
  risk group in Syria based on the available
  information of high incidence among examined
  contacts, which reached 100 folds more than the
  national average of notified incidence in the
  year 2005. .

Definition

• contact is each person who lives in the same
  house and he/she is closely contact with TB
  patient.

• The contacts for all TB cases are subject to
  contacts screening.

How to examine contacts

• All children should be examined and adults who
  have cough for 2 -3 week or more with others TB
  symptoms.
• For children do PPD and X ray.
• For adults Sputum and X ray.

Periodicity of contacts examinations

• When detect the TB cases they asked the patient
  to pring theirs contact to do the relevant test.
  Then they asked the contact to come back when
  they Have symptoms.

Recording Reporting

• There is a register for contacts tracing.
  
• And NTP receive reports on contact tracing.

the candidates for preventive therapy

• Children who has positive tuberculin test more
  than 10 mm if he/she didnt have BCG vaccination
  and more than 15mm if he/she had vaccination .
• Adults who had positive tuberculin test and
  he/she is under 25 year old.

• The preventive treatment recommended in Syria is
  H for 6 months.

• This means that the notified incidence of new
  smear positive cases among examined was 1911/100
  000, which represent 100 folds more than the
  national average of notified incidence in the
  year 2005.

• In addition there is a weak system for contact
  tracing since only 41 of all candidates contacts
  are examined.
• Quite a large proportion of contacts are missed
  in contact tracing, although the incidence is
  extremely high among them.
