WHY WE MISS OUR CHANCES TO IMPROVE
The fear of not looking good is one of the
greatest enemies of learning. To learn, we need
to acknowledge that there is something we dont
know, and to perform activities that were not
good at. For new Year 6 or 7 Runners that could
be missing out on .RACING, TRAINING, BEING
COACHED. Even experienced runners have their own
barriers to progress
THE MOSES MESSAGE

Senge, P. (1990). The fifth discipline The art
and practice of the learning organization. (1st
ed.). New York, NY Doubleday.

BARRIER 1 The best I could do.
  • EXAMPLE You tell yourself, I want to run
better, but this was the best I could do.
  • SOLUTION Just because that was the best you
could do at that given point doesnt mean thats
where you have to stay now.
  • Start making lists of what you want to do be
    in your future dream big!

BARRIER 2 The talks a lot barrier.
  • EXAMPLE Many wannabe athletes talk about the
great run theyre going to do/train. The problem
is they do more talking than running. Soon
theyve no longer have the desire to change.
  • SOLUTION Make a commitment to talk only to
people who can actually help you achieve it.
However, you can talk about what youve actually
done toward your dreams all you want.

BARRIER 3 The I deserve it feeling
  • EXAMPLE You believe, I deserve it. They owe it
to me. So, its likely that youre not putting
in the work necessary to achieve what you want.
  • SOLUTION You have to have internal drive to
reach your goal. You cant wait for someone to
    hand it to you.

THE MOSES MESSAGE

BARRIER 4 Being afraid to fail.
  • EXAMPLE Youve hated training, front running,
fighting because you think you wont be
    successful.
  • SOLUTION First, realize that this is the No. 1
barrier that keeps people stuck inside their
comfort zones. Successful people refuse to be
    defeated by setbacks, disappointments or
    failures.
  • Unsuccessful people give up early and settle for
    less.

THE MOSES MESSAGE
13
BARRIER 5 The cant decide barrier.
  • EXAMPLE You work below your potential (racing,
training) because you just cant decide what
great to do/go after and you dont want to pick
    the wrong one.
  • SOLUTION Understand that indecision is keeping
you from taking action. Missed opportunities only
limit you if you dwell upon those in the past
instead of looking for the ones ahead.

BARRIER 6 Living in Somedayland.
  • EXAMPLE You swear youre going to make a major
change, but first youve got to get fit, wait
until Surreys etc. Theres always a but first
or if or Someday in your statements about
    your goals.
  • SOLUTION Focus on whats really important to you
-- and make that your first priority.

    barrier).
