Environmental Surveillance
  • The recent positive environmental samples
    decreased from 16 in 2002 to only 2.5 in 2004.
  • Genomic sequencing of polio virus demonstrated
    continued reduction in number of clusters only 2
    clusters in 2004.

Acute Flaccid Paralysis Surveillance
  • Is maintained at certification standard in every
    individual governorates in Egypt.
  • 2.5 / 100.000 children under 15 years of age.

Reaching Every ChildReaching Every Flat
  • Preparation including training of vaccination
    team and supervisors to improve both quality
    Coverage.
  • Special plans focusing on Mega Cities to ensure
    visiting every apartment.
  • Special plan for defaulter tracing and
    vaccination in these areas.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation of each round
    (International observers, Independent monitors).
  • Very high Routine vaccination coverage including
    zero dose.
  • Due to the appearance of few ve environmental
    samples a sero-survey was conducted to assess the
    immune status of the children.
  • Use of Monovalent type I vaccine in campaigns
    starting May 2005.

Plan for importation
  • Strengthen Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP)
    surveillance particularly in areas receiving
    foreigners from infected countries.
  • SNID 10-12 January at governorates bordering
    Sudan (Aswan Red sea) at the same time of Sudan
    campaign.
