Conclusions
  • OPV acceptance has increased among the
    communities.
  • Significant improvement in SIA Quality
  • Fewer WPV cases than anticipated were confirmed
    during the high transmission period
  • There seems to be some progress in reducing
    transmission of wild poliovirus in 2004

Sustaining the current gains towards wpv
reduction/ interruption
  • 1) Implementation of the 5th Expert Review
    Committee (ERC) recommendations as of 3rd Dec
    2004
  • Improve the quality of NIDs strategies
    (training, supervision, monitoring,etc)
  • Sustain the high quality of AFP surveillance
  • Strengthening the involvement of political,
    opinion leaders, community mobilizers and other
    partners including media
  • 2) Implementation of the NPI National End of Year
    Review (Dec 2004) recommendations
  • Early training, review and recruitment of central
    facilitators for 2005 in their respective
    geopolitical zones.
  • Strengthening 2005 ward microplan and applying
    results to the composition of sweep groups
  • Documentation of sweep group supervisors and
    vaccinators for use throughout 2005 with the aim
    of avoiding change of personnel where possible
    thus improving personnel performance at each
    round
  • Cascading supervision to involve government and
    partners at all levels
  • Early training and utilization of newly modified
    training materials
