Title: entering Combined Honours

1
e-ntering Combined Honours
2
Introduction
  • e-ntering provides a way to mentor the student
into University as well as start to build a
    profile on that student.
  • e-ntering will generate information about the
students capabilities and thereby will allow
its curriculum areas to adapt to his/her
    stronger and weaker areas.

3
The User
  • This project will focus on the user as the
customer, therefore the main focus of this
system is to stimulate the customer
  • Through interaction and individuality
(individuality is still to be developed).
  • The main task is to make sure that the system
does what it is supposed to in the way that it is
    supposed to
  • Make sure of the site marketability mainly
through its design (look and functionality).

4
The System
  • e-ntering is composed of twelve study skills
  • Studying at Aston
  • University.
  • Reading.
  • Making Writing
  • Readable.
  • Numeracy.
  • Referencing.
  • Taking Notes.
  • Report Writing.
  • Essay Writing.
  • Punctuation.
  • A Study Strategy.
  • Working in Groups.
  • Time Management.

5
The System
  • Each study skill is composed of various
    sub-areas.
  • The study skills are organised in a simple way
  • one page of theory, one of SAQs, another of
    theory, another of SAQs, etc.
  • Then at the end there is a quiz.

6
The Look
  • The look of the page is based on the new Aston
    University Website Template.
  • Easy on the eye.
  • Clean look.
  • Concentrates the
  • focus of the page
  • on the material.

7
The Functionality
  • The layout of the pages have been designed with
    functionality in mind.
  • There are three menus
  • Top menu
  • Allows easy navigation
  • throughout the site.
  • Contains the links to change the
  • password, logout and help.
  • Contains all the links to the beginning
  • of each study skill.
  • Sub-menu (on the left)
  • Allows for easy navigation
  • within the study skills.
  • It will only be available when the
  • student is inside the study skill areas.
  • Bottom menu
  • Displays some extra links that allow the user to
get more information on some areas
  • i.e. Combined Honours, e-ntering, contact us,
    feedback.

8
The Functionality
  • The system works with the database to interact
    with the student
  • Feedback, for example
  • Colour coded for answers.
  • Relevant to what the student answered.

9
New Ideas to be implemented
  • Online diary.
  • The student will fill this in at the end of each
    section.
  • Give the student and tutor an idea of the
    progress made.
  • Also tells the tutor how the student is feeling
    (self-esteem, motivation, etc).
  • Action plan
  • and general
  • notes on each
  • page.

New Ideas to be implemented
  • Tutors will have their own user interface that
will display the students answers according to
    their needs. For example
  • Tutors can look at a student's answers for any
    study skill.
  • Tutors can check for a specific area and compare
    students.
  • Tutors can suggest changes to a module if
students have a problem with that area.
  • Tutors will be able to check for particular
students that might need more help in some areas.
  • Tutors will be able to send messages to students.
