  • Saturday, 25th of April was Anzac Day. It is a
day when we remember in a special way, all
Australians who have died in war. People like
Weary Dunlop and the man we call Simpson (and his
donkey) come to mind today, but we also remember
all those women and men who served their
countries in war, and whose names we do not know.
  • We remember this past history of war, and pray
that in the future, Australians will work to make
    peace, not war.

4
  • The Anzac tradition - the ideals of courage,
determination and mateship began on 25 April,
1915 when the Australian and New Zealand Army
Corps landed on the Gallipoli Peninsula.

5
  • It was the start of a campaign that lasted eight
months and resulted in some 25,000 Australian
casualties, including 8,700 who were killed or
    died of wounds or disease.

6
  • The men who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula
created a legend, adding the word Anzac to the
Australian and New Zealand vocabularies and
creating the notion of the Anzac spirit.
