• Programed Based Church Planting
• is the planting of a church that will
  minister to people and grow through a variety of
  church programs. These programs will consist of
  some combination of evangelism discipleship
  youth, children, men, women ministries music
  missions and social ministries.

Program Based--David Jones, Fanning Springs
Baptist (Rural Work)

• Started in an open air cow arena and now in
  new facilities debt free with about 150 in
  attendance.  He is a grad of SEBTS. Started as a
  PRAXIS student in this area and came back to
  plant the church. It was thirty years since this
  association planted a new church. Praise God
  this went well and now they are starting other
  new works!

• Requires excellent communication mechanisms.

Criticisms of the Satellite Model

• Mother church, board, and pastor have control
  issues.
• Its not really church planting.
• Its just building somebodys personal kingdom.
• It is dividing the church.

Strengths of the Satellite Model

• Satellite churches will meet the needs of
  different people.
• Satellite churches can try new things without
  effecting members at the main campus.
• Satellite churches allow the mother to change at
  her own pace.
• New church is able to borrow credibility from
  mother.

• Satellite churches allow a church that is
  cramped for space, to continue to grow.
• Satellites can duplicate what works.
• Satellite churches may result in new churches.

• Satellite churches may result in the loss of key
  leaders, threatening the tenure of the lead
  pastor.
• Satellite churches may become a threat to the
  mother church.
• Satellite leadership may not be well represented
  in the decision-making process of the church.

• There is often a tendency to grow apart over
  time.

• is the planting of a church that will focus on
  the five purposes of a church as identified by
  Rick Warren. The five purposes are outreach,
  worship, fellowship, discipleship, and service.

• Was on staff at FBC, Ocala as Student
  Minister. Felt led to plant with no core group. 
  Six years later over 1000 attendance.  He is a
  Saddleback model all the way.

• Seeker Focused Based Church Planting
• is the planting of churches that
  intentionally target specific seeker populations,
  and position themselves to respond to the
  targets needs.

Seeker--Billy Wight, Palm Coast Community

• Planted about 5  years ago as a team.  Has
  grown to over 300 and helped the Florida Baptist
  Convention plant at least 3 other churches -- one
  a gen. x.  Willow Creek model. He is so seeker
  focused that Willow Creek uses him in the
  conferences as a teacher. By the way our own
  John Shepherd was the catalyst for this plant.

• Ministry Based Church Planting
• is the planting of a church that will go into
  the community, impact peoples lives, and draw
  them towards the gospel.

• This work has been in existence for several
  years but is ministry based and has a vision to
  plant other ethnic congregations out of their
  church using their own facilities.  They already
  have a successful Hispanic work with the church
  planter under Steve's regular mentoring.

• Relation Based Church Planting
• is relatively new and attempts to solve the
  riddle of reaching and congregationalizing
  postmoderns. Relation based churches are nothing
  more than networks of single cell churches.
  These churches are fluid and spread along
  relational lines through people networks.

Relational--Bill Wing, Dunn's Creek Baptist
(Rural)

• This church planter is over 60 (62).  Resigned
  his solid church in south Carolinia to planted
  his first church.  Very relational.  Meeting in a
  funeral home and had bought land and drawn plans
  for first bldg. Bill did all of the right stuff.
  He even used the Jesus video and gave them out to
  over 1000 homes in this 8000 home community. He
  launched with 71 in attendance in a funneral home
  since it was the only large building in the area.
  Now he run over 180 in worship. Bill says that
  this launch late in life has been his greatest
  work for the Lord.

•    involves the starting of a church among a
  specific people or cultural group. The culture
  can be defined ethnically, by language,
  socioeconomic factors, lifestyle preferences, or
  other distinguishing characteristics.

  second generation Hispanic, English-speaking new
  church.  Al is doing a great job and is setting
  aside 2 of their budget for church planting. He
  now runs over 180 in worship attendance.
