Introduction

• EAI refers to Enterprise Application Integration.
  From the name, we could know that EAI is mainly
  focusing on the issue of integrating enterprise
  applications, which will make isolated
  applications to talk to each other.

• The main source of the study is from the
  Internet.
• http//www.erpassist.com/ is particularly
  interesting website, it talks almost everything
  ranging from General ERP, Application Integration
  (which in my case is EAI), to ERP portals.

Paper 1 Enterprise Application Integration (EAI)

• This paper serves as a general-purpose document,
  which explains what is EAI and how EAI could be
  successfully implemented. A definition of EAI
  from the document is"EAI is the ongoing process
  of putting an infrastructure in place, so that a
  logical environment is created that allows
  business people to easily deploy new or changing
  business processes that rely on IT."

Paper 2 BPM Making Sense of Integration

• The interesting part of this article is it
  provides the information to the business analyst
  and business process manager the available tools
  that could be used when designing the business
  process that requires enterprise application
  integration.

• This document gives a real life study of EAI
  deployment. As we could see from the title, one
  of the EAI deployments projects when we want to
  link the internal enterprise application with
  e-business systems, we will involve EAI.

• When we think about moving data from one
  application to another application. It involves
  three steps Extract, Transfer and Load. It is
  always referred as ETL. Sometimes, people like to
  mix ETL with EAI. But from a broader prospect,
  ETL is part of EAI, for every EAI project
  involves some degree of extract, transfer and
  load data from one to the other application. This
  is where this article fits into the picture.

Conclusion

• Through this study, we know that EAI is not just
  a piece of software of enterprise project. They
  are attributes of EAI. A broad understanding of
  EAI is it is an ongoing process, which implements
  the business process requirement for integration
  and rely on IT as the infrastructure.
• EAI involves several layers business process
  layer, component service layer, message service
  layer and transport service layer. A
  comprehensive look of EAI should include
  software, data integration, development tools,
  and platform.

• Possible research projects could be conduct on
  different categories the EAI software market,
  including server, and tools. Messaging
  standardization, and integration business process
  methodology.
