Title: ARCTIC COUNCIL PROJECT HEALTH PRESERVATION OF MIGRANT AND NATIVE ARCTIC POPULATION
1ARCTIC COUNCIL PROJECTHEALTH PRESERVATIONOF
MIGRANT AND NATIVE ARCTIC POPULATION
LEAD COUNTRY - RUSSIALEAD WORKING GROUP - SDWG
2Preconditions
- Residing in extreme conditions has a negative
impact on health - Migrants health problems are common for all
Arctic countries. - Direct correlation between duration of migrants
residence in the Far North and their health. -
- Aggravation of native population health.
3Major factors influencing health in the Arctic
- For migrants meteorological and geophysical -
(atmospheric pressure, temperature and humidity,
wind and solar activity, intensity of geomagnetic
fields, day duration). - For native population socio-economic factors
(unfavorable social conditions, misbalanced
feeding, low quality and efficiency of medical
care). - For all - negative influence of anthropogenious
pollution
4The basic approaches to health improvement of
the Arctic population
- The Inari Declaration points out for all AC
members - to solve problems of health preservation,
- to share information about diseases,
- to cooperate
- to assess usage of telemedicine as
- the way to overcome big distances.
5The Project priorities
To make adequate measures on the basis of
experience and knowledge gathered in relevant
projects. (traditional knowledge included)
To conduct pilot projects for implementation
practical recommendations successfully for
migrant and native population To elaborate
practical recommendations for particular
territories of the Arctic countries.
6Tasks of the project (1)
- 1.To define types and prevalence of diseases in
pilot regions for considerable level and
availability of medical care - 2.Creation of the unified health status register
with information in pilot regions - 3.Elaboration and implementation of targeted
recommendation on health preventive measures and
treatment of native and migrant population
7Tasks of the project (2)
- 4. Analysis scientific research of factors that
influence health negatively - 5. Systematization of adaptation mechanism of
human organism to extreme conditions of the Far
North - 6. Special diet recommendations into
consideration specifics of vitamin status for
native and migrants
8Tasks of the project (3)
7. Creation of unique genetic bank for small
nations 8. Creation of health status control
model 9. Monitoring the influence of
socio-economic, meteorological, geophysical,
ethnical and cultural factors on health on the
base of Arctic Center of Preventive Medicine
(ACPM) 10. To demonstrate the results and
methodological approaches (annual scientific and
practical conferences)
9Realization of the project key points
- working out personally oriented practical
recommendations - recovering physiological balance
- assessment the real input of socio-economic,
genetic, meteorological and geophysical factors - health status assessment of the population in
pilot regions - Arctic Center of Preventive Medicine foundation
10Valuable project results
- The project issues could be used by countries
with the same climatogeographical, ecological and
demographic situation. - Implementing unified approaches to health
preservation will allow to set up a base for
preventive address measures for further
development human potential in the Arctic region
for each country.
11- To invite AMAP for project implementation
- To establish task force for preparation
- detailed work plan
