Schema
The fate of passengers is an event so it is best
modeled by a factless facttable. SAP cant do a
factless fact table so we create a counter fact
(Key Figure)that will always have the value 1.

Create InfoObjects
Select InfoObjects

Create Info Area
Each student will create an InfoArea in which
they can organize their InfoObjectCatalogs.
Right click on the InfoArea called Info Area for
UCF Fall 2006and select Create.

InfoArea
Name your InfoArea like that shown above except
use your own ID.
Then hit OK.

Create InfoObject Catalogs
Need to create two InfoObject Catalogs one for
your Characteristics and one foryour Key Figure.
Right-click on your InfoArea and select Create
InfoObjectCatalog

Catalog for Characteristics
Name the catalogfor your characteristicsBISCHA
R where is your ID.
Make sure you selectChar.
Next click

InfoObject Catalog
Activate thecatalog
After the catalogis activated hit theback button
Now repeat the process except choose to
createa Key Figurecatalog.

Create Characteristic InfoObject
Right-click on your Characteristic InfoObject
Catalog and select Create InfoObject Name
the InfoObject as shown and hit OK.

Age Characteristic
Select the CHARtype and Length 5
Then activate the object

Additional Characteristics

• Create the following additional characteristics
• Class
• Gender
• Fate

Create a Key Figure
Name the Key Figure asshown at right

Create a Key Figure
Select the Integertype
Then activate the object

Create InfoCube
Select InfoProvider in the Navigation Window

Right-click on theInfoArea calledInfo Area for
UCFFall 2006 and select Create InfoCube

Create InfoCube
Name the InfoCubelike this and hit the Newbutton

Select Characteristics
Find your characteristics in the list on the
right and hit the button to insert them intoyour
cube.

Select Characteristics

Time Characteristic
Every InfoCube must have a time characteristic so
on the Time Characteristics tab choose the
provided characteristic 0CALYEAR.

Key Figure
On the Key Figures tab, find your Key Figure and
insert it into the cube.

Creating Dimensions
Next, on the Characteristics tab select the
Dimensions button
and select No on the dialog box thatappears.

Next, hit the Assign tab
Then enter a description
Create a dimension by hittingthe Create button

Assign Characteristics to Dimension
Then select the dimension
Hit the Assign button
Select all of thecharacteristics
Finally, hit OK

Save and Activate the cube
Save the InfoCube
and activate it

Source System
There are many different types of source systems
available to SAP BW. Ive alreadycreated one
for uploading from a flat file. Well all use
that one.

InfoSource
The InfoSource is used to define where data can
befound to import into the cube.Select
infoSources in theNavigation Window

Create InfoSource
Right-click on Non-SAPSources and selectCreate
InfoSource

Create InfoSource
Name the InfoSource like this and then hit OK
The result should look something like below.
Now, double-click your InfoSource.

Create Communication Structure
Enter your characteristics in the InfoObject
column in the order they appear in theflat file
age, gender, class and fate. Then enter the Key
Figure.
After you enter all four hit the button to
populate the rest of the table.

Create Transfer Structure
Select UCF_FILE for the Source System. SAP will
fill in the Transfer structure.
Select Charonly

Create Transfer Rules
If everything goes well the status of all
InfoObjects should look like this
On the Transfer Rules tab select the Propose
Transfer Rules button
The Key Figure does not have a transfer rule so
we will have to create one by clickingon the red
X

Transfer Rule for Key Figure
Select constant and enter a value of 1 for the
Key Figure Transfer Rule. After saving the
Transfer Rule, Activate the InfoSource.

Create Update Rules
Now we need to create the updaterules used when
data is transferredinto the InfoCube. Return to
InfoProviders and right-click on yourInfoCube
and select Create UpdateRules

Enter the name of your InfoSource and hit

Now activate your update rules
Green lightstatus meanseverything isOK
If we hadnt created the Transfer Rule for our
Key Figure we could create an update rule for it
here.

Create InfoPackage
Next we create anInfoPackage whichactually
carries outthe data load. Back in
InfoSourcesright-click on UCFFlat File and
selectCreate InfoPackage

Enter a description like this
and then hit Save

Before proceeding download the Titanic data file
located on the class notes page.

Specify Flat File
On the External datatab browse for the
file. Select CSV file Change the DataSeparator
to ,(comma) Finally, specify that oneheader
row is to be skipped

Import Data
On the Schedule tab click the Start buttonAfter
the data is read hit the Monitor button

Green indicates successful load

View Data
Return to InfoProvidersin the NavigationWindow,
right-click onyour InfoCube and select Manage

Select your infoCube by clicking on the square at
the left then hit Contents

Select the characteristics to view by hitting

Select the characteristics and hitthe execute
button When you return to the previousscreen
hit the execute button again

The Key Figure is summedbecause that is
theaggregation type selectedwhen we created the
it.
