Overview of Research

• Purpose To develop a technology to assess the
  survival of viruses during the processing and
  ultimate disposal of human sewage
• Objective Compare cell culture PCR with
  cultivation assays to recover viruses from
  biosolids

• Approach New lab created with funds from the
  Ohio Board of Regents and UC and quality
  assurance plan in place as per US EPA
  requirements
• Significance Results will be used by USEPA to
  conduct a national survey to assess the risk to
  human health from land application of sewage
  biosolids
