• INWEPF Second Steering Meeting and Symposium on
  the Water and Environment in Paddy Fields were
  held on 2-4 November in the Lotte Hotel World
  (Jamsil),Seoul, Korea.----The delegates from 14
  countries and 6 international organizations
  participated in the following symposium
• Keynote Speech

  of Agriculture and Forestry, Korea gave a welcome
  message.

Strategic Action Plan 2005-2006 (draft)
Mission statement The mission of the INWEPF is to
realize the three challenges Food security and
poverty alleviation, Sustainable water use
and Partnership by promoting good practice of
water management in paddy fields with due
consideration for conservation and sustenance
of rice-based ecosystems by cooperating with all
stakeholders.

Expected outcomes 2005-2006
The 2005-2006 INWEPF activities will result
in ---Better understanding of water management
in various contexts, and of multiple roles of
water in paddy fields including conservation of
rice-based ecosystem. ---Better understanding of
governance of water use in paddy fields including
participatory irrigation management and
multi-stakeholder involvement. ---Development of
good practices and formulation of a common
understanding in sustainable water use in paddy
fields toward future international discussions on
water including the 4th WWF to be held in Mexico
in March 2006

The prioritized themes of the 2005-2006 INWEPF
activities are selected by adding the sixth theme
in the number 11 above to the three core themes
of 2004-2005. Theme 4 Promoting farmers and

INWEPF activities to WWF4

The 4th World Water Forum
The 4th World Water Forum is going to be held on
16-22 March in Mexico city. This forum consists
of Topic Session (more than 150), Ministerial
Conference, Water Fair, Water Expo and so
on. INWEPF will convene one topic session under
the joint auspices of ICID ASRWG, titled
"Sustainable paddy water use and its
multi-functionality with better governance". It
will be held under the framework theme of "Water
Management for Food and the Environment". Furtherm
ore, INWEPF will exhibit some panels at Japan
Pavilion in Water Expo.
