Example Augustus Caesar, or Octavian, was the
grandnephew of Julius Caesar and a member of the
Second Triumvirate. He rose above the other two
members of that group to become the first emperor
of the Roman Empire. His importance lay in his
decisions to rebuild Rome, reform the tax and
economic systems, and expand the size of the
Roman Empire.
