- Autonomous reconfiguration of the system in a
dynamic, stochastic and partially cooperative
environment, achieved through - (a) dynamic reconfiguration of the capacity of
some of the physical elements of NATS to better
serve demand requirements - (b) dynamic spatial and temporal reconfiguration
of demand to best match available capacity - (c) pricing structures and collaborative
arrangements between service providers and users.
3Expected Transformative Benefits to the National
Air Transportation System
- Large-scale models for computing optimal
benchmarks to assess current and future
performance of the ATM system - Real-time assignment and reallocation of slots at
congested airports, in response to probabilistic
weather forecasts and to scheduled mix of
arrivals and departures - Exploration of benefits from real-time
information exchanges and collaborative
decision-making by NATS stakeholders - Exploration of benefits from market-based
mechanisms for improved capacity utilization - Models and algorithms for airline scheduling and
recovery - Advances in robust and adaptable optimization
theory and applications to the NATS domain - Reconfigurable system test beds with extensive
databases to support experimentation and concept
validation
