• When parenting supports childs needs, the 1st
  year leads to feelings of trust in others
• basic trust - when basic needs are met
• quality rather than quantity
• trust in infancy sets the stage for a lifelong
  expectation that the world will be a good and
  pleasant place to live
• next 2 years lead to a sense of personal autonomy
• resolved favorably when parents provide suitable
  guidelines and reasonable choices
