1 to 1 _at_ SFX
  • NSSCF SFX

The call to act justly, live faithfully, and walk
humbly with your God.
2
Why implement a 1 to 1 Laptop Program at SFX ?
  • Has the potential to significantly improve
    student learning outcomes at SFX.
  • Every student has access to a computer at school
    and at home.
  • Reduces the overall cost to parents.
  • Meets the Colleges commitment under the NSSCF.

3
Benefit to Teaching and Learning
Anywhere, Anytime
The devices help schools engage the digital
generation by nurturing individual (or 1-to-1)
learning experiences
4
1 to 1 helps students to
Individualise learning, which can increase
independence and self-initiated learning in
students, and extend their learning beyond the
classroom.
Take greater pride and ownership over the
knowledge they create, with a flow-on to more
flexible forms of schooling.
Extend formal learning communities to include
parents, siblings and other people important in
students' lives.
5
1 to 1 helps students to
Increase collaborative learning with other
students in their class, Year group, House group,
special interest groups and diversified groups
globally.
6
1 to 1 helps staff to
Create individual learning programs Integrate
the students world into the classroom Keep pace
with the technology students will encounter
outside the classroom Be more innovative in
their teaching and learning

National Secondary School Computer Fund
  • The NSSCF was a direct result of the Governments
    Digital Education Revolution.
  • D.E.R. GOAL - Provision of a computer for every
student in years 9 to 12.
  • Approx 1,000 per student has been allocated to
meet the program goal over four years.
  • At the end of the current four year program we
have been told to expect an ongoing 70 of the
replacement cost per student over 4 years.
  • This excludes students in 7 8.

8
Current situation at SFX
  • SFX has signed up to and completed stages 1 2
    of the NSSCF program.
  • The target at the end of stage 2 was for a
student to computer ratio from years 9 to 12 of
    21.
  • SFX is currently 1.929 students per PC in years 9
    to 12.
  • There are currently 440 Student Computers.

9
Current situation at SFX continued
  • As we are not allowed to count computers for
years 7 8, of the 440 student computers 380 are
designated for the use of years 9 to 12.
  • On the current enrolment of 736 students in years
9 to 12 we will need to increase our student
    computers by 356 computers.
  • If we install more desktops as per our current
strategy where do we put them without affecting
the amenity of the teaching and learning spaces
    ??????
  • Laptops are the only appropriate solution !

10
To be successful SFX needs to..

process (Parents ,Board, EXEC, Staff, and
students) Have a strongly supported vision and
culture across the whole school community

and support programs Develop co-operative,

Cost Advantages for Parents
  • Reduces recurrent IT costs _at_ SFX by 64,000 pa.
  • Parents do not need to provide a PC at home.
Saving approximately 2,000 over 4 years.
  • On an annual basis assuming school fee increase
of 250pa parents will be 250 pa better off.
  • Extensive support program provided by SFX further
    decreasing costs for parents.
  • Tax rebates available to parents for Student IT
    expenses.
