  • Many library resources and services are
    accessible from within some library databases.
  • As more resources adopt the OpenURL Metadata
    standard, the Reality will approach the Dream.

A Word About Metadata

  • Not a new idea (remember card catalogs?)
  • Why should we care?
  • Knowing the description of a document allows the
    entire document to be manipulated
  • Imagine linking your course syllabus to the
    library, a collection of digital images, relevant
    professional sites, and more--WITHOUT having to

  • Self-selected users of Web of Science or ProQuest
  • Test subjects are given tasks and monitored by
    two observers
  • Obsearvers record time taken and whether task
    completed (yes or no)
  • Notes taken about test subjects behavior and
    spoken comments
