History of Project

• Led by NZ from 2000-2001
• Lack of resources/personnel to continue project -
  Australia assumes responsibility
• GA develops database from existing control
  received
• On-line version live in March 2002

How it works

• Using tabulated data collected, it is transformed
  into ArcView Shape files and then into Mapserver
  compatible format (.dbf files)
• MapServer is not a full-featured GIS system but
  allows you create "geographic image maps"

• Open source code developed by University of
  Minnesota
• ltmapserver.gis.umn.edugt
• Freely available
• OGC compliant software
• ISO TC211 compliant
• Projection file for Antarctica has been developed

Project Work Plan 2002-04

• 1. Maintain database and add in newly acquired
  data
• 2. Italy to provide further details on Northern
  Victoria Land points (photos, etc)
• 3. Collaboration with Steffen Vogt for KGI
  geodetic control
• 4. Australia (Henk Brolsma John Manning) to
  help develop guidelines for photo identification
  (collaboration from Jerry Mullins)
• 5. Publish guidelines for geodetic control
  identification on the web site

Activities since Shanghai

• Received 50 new points from BAS - field seasons
  98-99, 00-01 01-02
• Updated in the on-line database
• Information on Northern Victoria Land markers is
  being sent by Alessandro Capra
• Information on photo identification is being
  sought
