  • A mixture of direct programme funding and
    per-capita allocations
  • Direct funding for Biomedical Research Centres of
    10m per annum BLT/QM bid failed to be
    shortlisted
  • Direct grant funding for Technology platforms
    (BLT funding gained 1m over 2 years)
  • Programme Grants 2m over 3-5 years. First round
    no BLT bids shortlisted

How new funding operates
  • Other specific schemes, NHS Healthcare
    Cooperative (BLT/QM shortlisted), HTA scheme,
    NEAT, Public Health Centres etc. By specific
    application.
  • Comprehensive Networks Allocations on a
    per-capita basis (population), within
    regions/areas. BLT in North/N.E London area. Not
    known what the values might be.
  • Bureaucracy Busting Central Offices for the
    administration of CN and other admin. Functions.

How new funding operates
  • National Institute for Health Research Faculty,
    pays for some elements of research active staff
    pay costs.
  • Generally a mixed bag of funding opportunities.

Programme Grants
  • Available funds when fully operational 75m p.a.
  • 2m over 3-5 years
  • Open Competition
  • Full costs of programmes
  • Covers salaries including full or part time
    involvement (and existing staff salaries), a
    comprehensive range of allowable costs (use of
    major equipment, computing charges, small items
    of equipment and overheads).
  • Salary costs of University staff (but not FEC)
  • Higher degrees and associated supervision costs
