Ferrous Metals
These contain IRON, an example is
STEEL Stainless Steel is steel mixed with
Chromium so that is does not rust. Often used
in kitchen equipment.
Non-Ferrous Metals
These do not contain IRON, examples are
ALUMINIUM, COPPER and BRASS.
Precious Metals
These are metals such as GOLD, SILVER and
PLATINUM.

Hardness
Hardness is the way in which a material reacts to
abrasion. A hacksaw blade needs to be hard so
that the material is cut rather than the blade
being made blunt.
Toughness
Toughness is the way in which a material reacts
to impact. A hammer head needs to be tough as it
is constantly being hit.
Malleable
Malleable is the ability of a material to change
shape by applying force, without it breaking.
Copper is malleable, that is why it can be beaten
into bowl shapes.
