Australian Government Policy
  • The Australian Government supports the
    development of a sustainable uranium mining
    sector in line with worlds best practice
    environmental and safety standards
  • States and Territories determine their policies
    on uranium mining
  • Uranium mining trigger the EPBC Act (DEWHA)
  • All exports are done under strict safeguards
    arrangements and only to NPT countries (ASNO)
  • Minister for Resources issues export permits for
    uranium (RET)

Uranium Export Permits
  • Minister for Resources and Energy grants permits
    under Regulation 9 of the Customs (Prohibited
    Exports) Regulations 1958
  • Conditional permits valid for 10 years
  • Allows direct exports to all countries within
    Australia's network of bilateral safeguards
    agreements
