General Rules
  • If 10 or more members in formation, use Road
    Guards when crossing every intersection
  • Reflective Vests Road Guards, formation
    commanders
  • Double Time it in BDUs and PTs, Adjutants Pace
    in Blues

Falling In with Road Guards
  • FLT/CC Road Guards Post.
  • 2 marching six paces in front, 2 marching six
    paces to the rear

Road Guards in Transit
  • Front Road Guards must be inclined first before
    executing a column movement or an incline.
  • Column Right Example Road Guards, incline
    right, 90 degrees. Column Right, March.

Crossing Intersections
  • FLT/CC Flight, Halt and Cover.

  • FLT/CC will move to edge of road, wave any
    oncoming traffic.

  • When road is clear, FLT/CC will move to the
    middle of the road, and execute an About Face.
    Note that the FLT/CC will not be in the way of
    the flight.

  • 2 (3 or 4, depending on the number of lanes of
    traffic) road guards out.
  • The front road guards will move to the oncoming
    traffic lanes, leaving room for the flight to
    pass by and the FLT/CC clear.

  • After the road guards are in place, they will
    execute a facing movement towards oncoming
    traffic, and move to a modified position of
    parade rest with their right hand palm out. (If
    they have flashlights, they will point them
    downward)

    Front Road Guards will then come to attention.

    of the flight.

    rear road guards. FLT/CC will command Flight,
    Halt and Cover.

  • If coming to an intersection where more than 2
    road guards are needed, the FLT/CC will command,
    1 (or 2) road guard(s) to the front.

  • The road guard(s) to the rear will post one arm
    length behind the front road guards prior to the
    intersection.

Group or Squadron Formations
  • Group or Squadron Formations
  • Lead flight will send out the initial road
    guards.
  • As other flights pass, their road guards will tap
    out the preceding flights road guards.
  • Tapping out another flight, but not in a
    formation with them
  • FLT/CC will ask the other FLT/CC (flight in the
    road) for permission to tap out their road
    guards. If granted, road guards and FLT/CC will
    tap out other road guards and FLT/CC. (FLT/CC
    will be the first in the road even in this
    formation)
  • No more than 3 individual flights, or one
    squadron, will cross intersections at one time
    when one or more vehicles are waiting.
