  • AZARNG must conserve, protect, and restore the
    environment while accomplishing the military
    mission

    schedule, and maintain good public relations

  • This course is for soldiers in the Arizona Army
    National Guard (AZARNG).
  • The purpose of this course is to make AZARNG
    soldiers aware of the AZARNG environmental program

  • Army Regulation 200-1 requires each Installation
    Commander to appoint environmental compliance
    officers to ensure environmental compliance
  • The Installation commander for the AZARNG is the
    Adjutant General

    environment during unit activities
  • Unit activities affect the environment

  • Use mechanical methods and other allowed
    self-help methods
  • Contact AZARNG Environmental Office for help with
    more aggressive measures

  • AZARNG personnel can use over-the-counter
    pesticides packaged for public use
  • AZARNG personnel cannot apply any other
    pesticides
  • AZARNG FMO must arrange for licensed applicators
    to apply anything other than over-the-counter
    pesticides

  • A spill is a release of a hazardous substance
  • A hazardous substance is any chemical for which
    you can get a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

  • Every armory should have a spill contingency plan
  • You and your UECO should know the plan well

  • Report all chemical and oil spills to your Unit
    Leader or your UECO
  • They will decide whether to report the spill to
    other authorities

  • Your UECO and Unit Leader will evaluate the
    potential environmental effect before your unit
    deploys to any training area
  • They will instruct you on procedures for
    environmental protection during deployment

  • During deployment you must comply with host
    facility environmental requirements
  • Every soldier can protect the environment by
    avoiding unnecessary damage to natural and
    cultural resources during unit activities

  • Avoid cutting brush and trees
  • Avoid damage to wildlife food plots and watering
    holes
  • Avoid protected wildlife habitat
  • Keep vehicles away from wetlands and wet ground
    to avoid ruts and damage

  • Make maximum use of existing roads and trails
  • Cross water only at designated locations
  • Refuel only in designated locations
