A Forum and an Ambassador of the European natural
gas industry

• Eurogas is a non profit association governed by
  the Belgian law.
• Offices are located in Brussels
• Objectives
• To promote the interests of its membership,
  companies, national federations and associations
  involved in the supply, trading and distribution
  of natural gas, and related activities such as
  storage and LNG
• To promote the development of natural gas in
  Europe particularly in the legal, economic,
  technical and scientific areas to prepare studies
  and to promote cooperation within the gas
  industry
• To promote the smooth functioning of the European
  internal gas market
• To take stance on issues of interest to the
  European natural gas industry with respect to
  international and supra-national organizations
  including but not limited to the European
  Institutions and to public opinion.

Internal market

• Eurogas supports the completion of the internal
  gas market in a an environment that encourages
  companies active in an increasingly
  import-dependent European market to plan and
  invest in natural gas supplies and
  infrastructure, thus contributing to security of
  supply.

Importance of dialogues with producing areas
for ensuring security of supply

• Diversification energy sources/geographic
  zones/producing countries/suppliers/supply routes
  (pipelines and LNG)
• Importance of politically stable and legally
  clear relations with major non EU production
  areas (Russia, MENA, Caspian region)
• Importance of level-playing field (EU-Russia
  dialogue, Eur-Asian Dialogue, EUROMED, OME etc)
• Security of demand/security of supply
• Long-term contracts and shorter term markets have
  both a role to play
• Long-term contracts necessary to bring the gas to
  the downstream markets.

EU Russia Dialogue

• Eurogas is participating in the TRADE group
  at the meeting on 10 March the following
  conclusions were drafted (these will provide
  input for the G8 summit in summer)
• looking at contractual market instruments
• development of wholesale energy trade hubs
  throughout the EC/Russia market area
• international cooperation instruments.
• systematic and structured basis for energy
  cooperation projects
• infrastructure projects
• promoting a supportive framework for cooperation
  between EU and Russian operators in order to
  improve energy efficiency and environmental
  performances, therefore contributing to
  sustainable development.
