LGE Showcases Leading Digital Technology at 2007
Korean Electronics Show
LGE showcased cutting-edge products at the
2007 Korea Electronics Show in Seoul, South
Korea, which took place on Oct. 9th to 13th. Over
650 companies from around the world presented
over 250,000 of their latest developments
allowing businesses to examine the latest
developments and gauge future trends. About 6,000
foreign buyers and 100,000 visitors looked over
the high-technology products. LGE prepared 120
booths to display over 420 products, such as
DTVs, mobile phones, and many other IT products.
LGE will showcase the second-generation Super
Blu, a dual format DVD player which is the first
in Korea to read both Blu-ray and HD-DVD discs,
along with other key products such as the Viewty,
a 5 mega-pixel camera phone, and full HD LCD TVs
and PDP TVs.
LGEIN Provides Love Care to the Community
LGEIN has conducted social activities, called
LG Love Care Program, to communities
surrounding LGEs its factories on September the
26th and 27th. LGEIN has two factories located in
Bekasi (West Java) and Tangerang (Banten), known
as Factory 1 and 2. In Factory 1, LGEIN assisted
those in Nurul Azhar Orphanage Social
Community House which is home to 106 orphans and
154 senior citizens. In Factory 2, LGEIN provided
care for those in Nurul Anshor Orphanage, which
is home to 200 orphans. They provided medical
service, renovated old buildings, and gave
donations such as clothes, meals, and LGEs
product such as TVs, computer monitors, audio
videos, and refrigerators. K.J. Lee,
President and Director of LGEIN, said,
Partaking in social activities is a great
commitment from LG to the community and children,
along with the LG Love School program, which is
dedicated to education in Indonesia.

Best Practice of Waste Elimination ??
Monthly Reporting Waste Reduction
In LGELS, D. Oosterling (European Service
Support Group), O. Gala (European Service Support
Group), and J.Y. Seo (European Planning Dept.
Group) found that making weekly and monthly KPI
reports were very much repetitive and time
consuming. The repetitive work, such as
downloading data from systems and calculating the
results in Excel took long hours to complete. As
a team, they wanted to eliminate this. First,
they defined the waste factors (manual downloads,
gathering data manually, and data processing in
Excel). Then they analyzed possible improvements
and created a blueprint of some of the best
solutions. Next, they implemented meetings with
CNS to get an automated database server. This
enabled them to program an Excel Add-In in Visual
Basic to automate the data processing. As a
result, they now receive the service data from
M-system (ERP system in Europe) automatically
from all EU subsidiaries daily. This enables them
to make a monthly report by simply clicking on
the new menu button in Excel. Through these
changes they reduced the amount of time spent
creating the report to a total of 90!
D. Oosterling said, I think Waste Elimination
gives us the opportunity to look for ways to
better our jobs and create awareness of our daily
work. Asking yourselves why you do parts of your
job, and for whom, as well as how it can be done
easier. It is important to look beyond your own
department and ask other people about waste in
your work. Sometimes you are not aware of
solutions, which is why getting help from your
colleagues is needed. In my opinion, Waste
Elimination is a good way to improve LGE and
ourselves.
