Georgia High School Graduation Tests

• The Georgia High School Graduation Tests continue
  to follow the Georgia Performance Standards
  implementation schedule.
• 2007 2008 ELA and Science GHSGT were based
  exclusively on the GPS and a new score scale was
  set.
• 2007-2008 Social Studies GHSGT was dually
  aligned (GPS/QCC).

GPS Implementation and GHSGT

• The GHSGT in Math will continue to be aligned
  exclusively to the QCC in 2008-2009. First time
  grade 11 test-takers will take this version (300
  series) of the Math GHSGT.
• The GHSGT in English Language Arts (ELA) and
  Science will be aligned to the GPS. First time
  grade 11 test-takers will take the GPS versions
  of the ELA (100 series) and Science (500 series)
  GHSGT.
• The GHSGT in Social Studies will be dually
  aligned to the GPS and QCC. First time grade 11
  test-takers will take this version (700 series).

Administration

• When do students become eleventh graders?
• In their third year of school if they meet local
  system requirements for promotion, usually in
  August.
• Mid-year of third year if they did not meet
  promotion requirements in fall of third year
  (block scheduling credit recovery).
• What are the implications of block scheduling on
  participation in GHSGT? On AYP?
• Students earn more units more quickly than on
  traditional
• schedules.
• Systems need to track students to ensure that
  11th grade students test for the first time in
  spring of 11th grade. Otherwise they do not
  contribute to your AYP.

Administration

• What about third year students who are not
  classified as 11th graders who are clearly on
  track to graduate within a year?
• They may test with special permission from
  GaDOE.
• What about special administrations?
• They must be for truly extenuating
  circumstances. See Student Assessment Handbook.
• Superintendents must request them in writing.
• A window for requesting special administrations
  for seniors who enroll after regular spring
  administrations will be established.

• Irregular Administration (IR)
• Invalidating Irregularity (INV)
• Participation Invalidation (PIV)

Irregularities (IR)

• Events and circumstances, or departures from
  standardized testing procedures are
  irregularities. They may have an impact on
  student performance that is not possible to
  define. They are reported and student scores are
  flagged simply to say, There is something
  different about the conditions under which this
  score was obtained. Use caution in interpreting
  the score.

Invalidations (INV)

• Some irregularities are so serious in the way
  they affect student performances or compromise
  the integrity of the testing that they result in
  invalidation of student scores.
• From the list on the previous slide, cheating,
  altering responses, disclosing content early are
  examples of irregularities resulting in
  invalidations.

Participation Invalidation (PIV)

• Beginning in spring 2009, in addition to
  irregularities (IR) and invalidations (INV),
• systems will have to code for Participation
  Invalidations (PIV) for students who receive an
  accommodation that is not on the list of
  state-approved accommodations (or given
  accommodations inappropriately)
• Federal regulations stipulate that when
  inappropriate accommodations are used, students
  may not be considered participants in AYP
  calculations.

Key Administration Issues

• Students should not have cell phones, PDAS, or
  other communication devices during testing.
  Calculators are allowed on the Math and Science
  tests. They should not graph or store text.
