What is a Project?
  • A project is a temporary endevaour undertaken to
    create a unique product or service (Project
    Management Institutes Body of Knowledge).
  • Every project has
  • Defined objectives to be completed with clear
    specifications
  • Clear timelines defined start and end dates
  • Requires organizational resources (budget, staff
    time, equipment and supplies)

What is Project Management?
  • It is the application of knowledge and skills to
    ensure project activities are delivered as per
    specifications while managing the following
    triple constraints

WHY USE PM?
  • Helps to set realistic objectives, timelines,
    budget and outcomes
  • Enhances success rate and stakeholder
    satisfaction
  • Supports engagement and communication
  • Helps in risk mitigation
  • Clarifies accountability and helps in performance
    management (monitoring, resource levelling, cost
    control and change management)

WHERE IS PM RELEVANT?
  • When need specific accomplishments
    (results/outcomes) in
  • a given time frame (start/end dates)
  • with predefined quality (evidence exists)
  • requiring resources (money, people, material)
  • utilizing skills and expertise of team members in
    a matrix management during the duration of the
    project

Project Quality
  • Quality is defined as meeting or exceeding the
    customers expectations through deliverables
    and/or activities performed to produce those
    deliverables.
  • Project Quality Plan lists the activities
    required to ensure that the activities planned at
    the beginning of the project will help to achieve
    Quality in the Project being executed. Outlines
    Quality Planning, QC QA.

Project Quality ManagementQuality Planning (QP)
  • QP identifies which quality standards are
    relevant to the project and determines how to
    satisfy them. The project scope, schedule, and
    budget are key inputs to Quality Planning.
  • Tools Identifying quality standards evaluation
    of deliverables against standards cost-benefit
    analysis of implementing quality standards and,
    Benchmarking.

Project Quality Management Quality Control (QC)
  • QC involves evaluating project deliverables to
    determine if they comply with the stated quality
    standards, and identifying ways to eliminate
    causes of unsatisfactory results.
  • Tools Reviews, structured inspections,
    flowcharting, process mapping to see what and
    where quality problems might occur.

Project Quality Management Quality Assurance (QA)
  • QA is a set of planned activities to ensure that
    variances in processes are identified, assessed,
    and controlled through continuously improving
    processes to meet the customers expectations.
  • Tools Process analysis, e.g., root cause
    analysis to determine the underlying causes of
    problems and developing corrective action plans
    Reviews, interviews and checklists Audits an
    independent examination of a work product or
    process to determine compliance with
    specifications and standards.
