Treatment of Salmonella
2
Salmonella is a type of bacteria. It is caused
frequently due to food-related illnesses in
humans and animals. Salmonella causes an upset
stomach, diarrhea, fever, and pain. There are
approximately ten million cases are reported
worldwide every year. Many people get cured on
their own within a week as it is a very common
type of infection. This infection is also counted
under food poisoning. Children, especially those
under 5 are more likely than adults to get
infected. People with weak immune systems are at
high risk and people with AIDS are prone to get
this bacterial disease easily.
3
Preventions and Causes of salmonella.
The prevention and treatment of Salmonella depend
upon an individuals hygiene habits. Wash hands
regularly before eating with soap, sanitizer.
Keeping poultry farms and medication for
broilers, proper vaccination for chicken as per
their schedule, antibiotics, poultry houses
should be properly maintained, and following
protocols according to Vet, poultry medicine
companies suggestions or guidance. Salmonella can
also be prevented by not consuming raw and
uncooked meat, unhygienic raw fruits, and
vegetables, unsanitary or unpasteurized milk and
dairy products, chicken, and eggs. Salmonella
usually appears 72 hours after infection. This
bacteria lasts for 7 days maximum and in severe
cases, it lasts up to 10 days. The mortality rate
of this virus is less than 1.
4
Treatment of salmonella.
Salmonella treatment may require hospitalization
in a few cases which are very rarely found. In
some cases, the doctor may suggest antidiarrheals
medicine such as Imodium A-D (Loperamide), in a
few cases, fluids may be delivered directly into
the vein intravenous. There are also some
antibiotics for salmonella like for children
azithromycin and adults fluoroquinolones and
Ceftriaxone antibiotics are some of the common
medical solutions practiced by doctors. There is
no need to panic if salmonella is detected as
just it needs to be diagnosed on time and
requires proper medical treatment under a
professional as soon as it is detected in the
body.
5
With the right care and the right safety
protocols, one can avoid getting infected by
salmonella. Medication for broilers should be
administered by poultry owners and the flock must
be kept in hygienic conditions to avoid
salmonella in the poultry.
