Meeting Your Academic Advisor

• All the new students at Long Island Business
  Institute are assigned an advisor who functions
  as a mentor throughout the students study.
• The academic advisors guide and prepare students
  for academic and personal success.
• The students at LIBI are required to visit their
  advisor every semester to discuss their classes.

The Role of an Academic Advisor

• Some of the roles of an academic advisor at LIBI
  are
• Help familiarize students with their academic
  program requirements
• Assist students in setting a class schedule
• Facilitate campus resources by referring students
  to appropriate office staff
• Help students address academic and/or personal
  difficulties that might deter them from
  progressing toward graduation
• Provide accurate and current information about
  college policies and procedures

• Come prepared with a list of questions for your
  advisor
• Be open to discussing details of your academic
  performance
• Bring your appointment calendar/planner to take
  notes for future appointments
• Be ready, willing and able to work
  collaboratively and be open to making changes

• Academic advisors support and advocate on a
  students behalf while staying within the
  guidelines of LIBIs policies and procedures
• Advisors do not always have all the answers,
  however, they work with students to find the
  answers
• Advisors do not make decisions for the students
  they provide guidance and any relevant
  information so that students can make the best
  decision for themselves
