Agriculture sector contributes to about 341 of
National GDP, making India the 2nd largest rice
producer, largest milk producer and one of the
top countries to produce wheat. Due to our green

Today, agriculture accounts to 75 of Indian
rural population, contributing to 25 of GDP of
the country and thus becoming a key sector of
Indian economy. It further provides a food

Agriculture and industry can provide the engine
for a sustainable growth momentum. However, this
has not yet been achieved. In order to attain an
average of 7-8 annual growth, Uday Salunkhe
suggests a contribution of at least 15-16 per
cent growth in industry, 4-5 growth in
agriculture and 8-10 growth in services.
