Depository library roles
  • Depositories as interactive, proactive
    participants in e-government information
  • Despite prevalence of the Internet, not all state
citizens will have ready access when they need
    it, depository libraries provide access
  • Although citizens are expected to use
e-government features, most have little knowledge
of state government roles and functions,
    depository librarians provide expertise and
    direction

6
Depository library roles, contd
  • Depositories as interactive, proactive
    participants in e-government information
  • State agency staff are not always readily
available, nor is answering information requests
always their primary job, they rely on the state
agency web pages and phone trees to perform
    this function. Providing state government
information is a primary function of a depository
    library
  • State agency staff are not always expert at
    understanding and interpreting information needs
of citizens, librarians are skilled at asking the
right questions and getting all the answers
