5Detector Data Link (DDL)
- The DDL will be installed between the detectors
and the front-end computers. - The DDL is an integral part of the ALICE data
acquisition system. - The DDL provides up to 200 MB/s bandwidth.
- The DDL consists of three parts
- Destination Interface Unit (DIU) on the
front-end computers ? connected via the RORC
(pRORC or HLT-RORC) - Multi-mode optical fiber cable to bridge up to
200 meters, full duplex LC connector - Source Interface Unit (SIU) on the detector
electronics ? connected to the RCU (prototype 1,
2, 3)

- PII_at_300Mhz
- 256 SDRAM
- 2x 40 GB disk
- Fast Ethernet

8Towards the final DAQ
- More realistic setup with respect to
installations at Test Beams or at Point 2 - Data stream over a long distance
- Electronics can be controlled remotely
- PC with LabView is not necessary
- High bandwidth upstream and downstream
- Scalable to more RCUs and FECs
- Early integration of front-end electronics with
theALICE data acquisition system - All components are ready
- DAQ milestone 388 of ALICE
9DATE
- The Data Acquisition and Test Environment is the
software framework of the ALICE DAQ. - It runs on Linux platforms.
- The latest release is V4.6 ? users guide
available - Well tested (test beams, data challenges)
- Services/Packages
- System configuration
- Run Control
- Readout for DDL
- Event Building
- Event Recording
- Messaging system

11FeC2
- The DDL is capable to Control and Configure the
Front-end electronics ? integration with the ECS - Protocols are defined for 4 basic transactions
- Sending commands (19 bits information)
- Reading status (19 bits address, 19 bits reply)
- Sending data blocks (19 bits address, file to
send) - Reading data blocks (19 bits address, file to
read) - Interpreter is implemented for executing scripts
- Example of a FeC2 script
