  • Mediterranean Ordinance Review Committee
    Recommendations
  • North Ponce Design Study
  • Other applicable studies completed to date
  • Other issues recently identified by the City
    Boards/Committees and City Commission policy
    direction

Planning and Zoning Board Responsibilities
  • Planning and Zoning Board responsibilities
  • Act as the Sounding board for the rewrite
  • Provide for a public forum for discussion on
    all matters pertaining to this comprehensive
    rewrite
  • All public hearings will be before the Board
  • Provide input and direction

Goals
  • Complete a comprehensive assessment and rewrite
    of the entire CLUP and Zoning Code
  • Simplify and improve the internal organization of
    the code with the use of graphics, tables,
    illustrations, etc.
  • Update the provisions to reflect modern day
    trends in planning and zoning
  • Amend the Zoning Code to reflect the goals and
    objectives of the CLUP and remove
    incompatibilities/inconsistencies between the
    documents

  • Planning staff will research and review
    alternatives and present recommendations
  • Planning and Zoning Board review of proposed
    policies and provisions
  • City Commission review and approval
  • Each section of Code will proceed forward as it
    is reviewed

Intent of Discovery Meetings
  • Provides for a forum for Staff interaction with
    the Planning and Zoning Board and City Commission
    to complete the following
  • Identify and discuss the major issues in the
    community that should be addressed
  • Distribute data and share resources
  • Discuss the degree of effort that each issue
    should receive
  • Identify issues, problems, etc with Codes
  • Secure input and solutions to identified issues
  • Secure input of possible new provisions to be put
    in place

  • To complete this, Staff has prepared Discovery
    Worksheets on the section of the Code to be
    rewritten
  • Each group, working group, Planning and Zoning
    Board and City Commission are requested to
    complete the worksheets
  • Working group comments will be provided to PZB
  • Working group/PZB comments will be provided to
    City Commission

Requested City Commission Action
  • 1. Endorsement of the attached Work Program
    calendar as recommended by the Planning and
    Zoning Board on August 27, 2003 attached as
    Exhibit B
  • 2. Upon Planning and Zoning Board completion of
    the Discovery Worksheets, as referenced in
    Exhibit C, Planning Staff will forward the
    completed worksheets for City Commission input
  • 3. Scheduling of a Discovery Workshop with the
    City Commission on January 19, 2004 or thereafter
