Tundra
  • The Tundra is one of the two biomes in the Polar
Zone. Next to the Desert it is the driest place
on Earth. They have long cold winters. In the
summer, only the top layer of soil thaws.

5
Animals
  • Four of the animals that live here are Polar
Bears, lemming, reindeer, and penguins. The
polar bear has a special fur for diving in and
out of ice water. The lemming has strong legs and
claw for digging in the Artic. The reindeer has
fur to keep it warm in the cold weather. The
penguin has adapted to life in the artic because
they have blubber under their fur.

6
Vegetation
  • Four type of vegetation are mosses, lichen,
sedge, and dwarf trees. Some of the vegetation in
this biome are able to stay frozen for months on
end. They also grow close to the ground. This is
how they have adapted to life in the artic.

7
Temperature and Precipitation
  • The climate of the tundra is cold and dry.
The yearly precipitation is from 0-25 cm. The
temperature range is -27 C to 5 C. The tundra is
the driest biome next to the desert.
