Title: The mission of the AUCLPE is to address knowledge gaps in the restoration, conservation and manageme

1
The mission of the AU-CLPE is to address
knowledge gaps in the restoration, conservation
and management of longleaf pine ecosystems to
provide a variety of ecological, social and
economic services for the people of Alabama and
the Southeast.
2
  • The formation of Auburn Universitys Center for
Longleaf Pine Ecosystems (AU-CLPE) will formally
house the accomplishments and expertise of the
LLA and continue the outreach efforts of the LLA
    with additional emphasis on research.

3
  • The AU-CLPE will address important knowledge gaps
in longleaf pine ecosystem management, provide
applied research knowledge for on the ground
    longleaf pine restoration and management
activities, and provide the umbrella for SFWS
faculty to pursue research and outreach efforts
    in longleaf pine.

4
  • There is no similar Center anywhere in the
country that focuses on longleaf pine ecosystems
and Auburn University has a national reputation
as the leading university in the nation in the
study, research and management of longleaf pine
    ecosystems.

5
  • The AU-CLPE will involve interdisciplinary
programs within the SFWS as well as other
departments on campus. The Center will encompass
any interested faculty members. We seek
    collaboration with faculty.
  • Establishment of the AU-CLPE will provide
    collective national and international visibility
to our work and enhance interdisciplinary
    collaboration.
  • A Center designation would significantly enhance
the ability to attract more funding.

6
  • The AU-CLPE would provide for the creation and
leadership of a multi-state Southern Extension
Research Activity (SERA) for longleaf ecosystems
and provide the opportunity for the AU-CLPE to be
the focal point for an extension community of
practice and expertise on longleaf pine
    ecosystems.
