4
Muscles of pelvic outlet (figure 9.36 in text
table 9.11)

provides sphincter action for anal canal and
    vagina
  • 2.     superficial transversus perinei-supports
    pelvic viscera

  • 3.gluteus medius-abduct and medially rotate
femur (help keep balance by shifting weight when
    walking)
  • 4.   gluteus minimus-abduct and medially rotate
femur (help keep balance by shifting weight when
    walking)
  • 5.    tensor fascia latae-flexes thigh, abducts
and medially rotates femur, braces knee when
    opposite foot is lifted

9
Muscles that move thigh continued
  • 6.   adductor longus-adducts and laterally rotate
    femur, flex hip joint
  • 7. adductor magnus-anterior part adducts and
laterally rotates femur, posterior part extends
    hip joint
  • 8.   gracilis-adducts femur, flexes knee,
    medially rotates tibia
  • 9.pectineus (extra muscle to add to
    list)-flexes and adducts thigh

10
muscles that move the leg (table 9.13)
  •  1. hamstring group (all flex leg)
  • -biceps femoris- extends thigh, laterally rotates
    leg
  • -semitendinosus-also extends thigh, medially
    rotates tibia
