State Objectives
  • SS.K.1.1 - Demonstrate an understanding that a
    good citizen takes responsibility for doing daily
    chores.
  • SS.K.2.1 - explain why rules are important and
    participate in developing rules.
  • SS.K.1.3 -identify the need for rules and the
    consequences for breaking rules and how to
    resolve disagreements peacefully. 
  • SS.K.3.2 - identify the basic needs of people
    (shelter, food and clothing)
  • SS.K.3.3 - identify the economic concept of the
    difference between needs and wants.

  • 8.      Fake shopping baskets
  • 9.      Laminated pictures of items
  • 10.  Stuff to hang posters on wall with

Utilize Media and Materials
  • Day 1
  • Discuss chores done at home.
  • Discuss why we have chores.
  • Discuss chores in community.
  • Assign classroom chores.

Day 2
  • Discuss rules
  • Why we have them.
  • Who makes them.
  • Explain different rules for different places.

Day 3
  • Discuss Consequences
  • Give each student a chance to tell how arguments
    are handled in their home.
  • Discuss how police handle arguments.
  • Tell how the class will handle disputes.

Day 4
  • Make PIZZA!!
  • Students will write a rule on a green piece of
    paper and a consequence on a pink piece of paper
    (paper cut into pizza slices).
  • Put the pieces together to make Pizza
    Rule/Consequences.

Day 5
  • Lets go shopping!!
  • Students will try to understand the concept of
    money today.
  • We will have fake registers, money, and items for
    the children to use.
  • After they shop we will put the items in groups
    of needs and wants.
  • I will then give a brief explanation of what we
    need vs. what we want.

Day 6
  • Tell the difference between the needs and wants
    items the children shopped for.
  • Go to computer lab for exercise on

Day 7
  • I will have poster boards ready for the children
    to Velcro items onto the separate needs and wants
    categories.
  • This is the evaluation.

  • Use fun activities to keep interest.
  • Give the children opportunities to speak a lot to
    keep them focused.
