Step 1 Ignorance
  • Between the 100 B.C.E and 100 C.E., the Jewish
people of the Roman Empire were seen as disloyal
due to their beliefs in one god and refusal to
    worship the emperors.

Step 2 Differences
  • In 70 C.E., Christianity split from Judaism.
  • Since the beginning of Christianity, followers
were taught that the Jews had killed their
    savior.
  • Constantine the Greats conversion to
    Christianity inspired a continental change,
leaving Jews in the misunderstood minority.

Step 3 Prejudice
  • The Middle Ages brought suffering to the Jews.
They were stripped of their rights to
    citizenship, government, military, and membership
    in ever-growing guilds.
  • Between 1290 and 1569, England (1290), Germany
    (1350), France (1400), Spain (1492), Portugal
(1496), Provence (1512), and the Papal States(
1569) refused to allow any Jews to live within
    their borders.

Step 4 Violence
  • The first of many, 1903s pogroms were
encouraged in former Kishinyov, Russia, now
Chisinau. These pogroms were violent attacks on

Step 5 Genocide
  • On January 30, 1933, Adolf Hitler, head of the
anti-Semite Nazi party, is appointed Chancellor
    of Germany.
  • August of 1934 brought the death of the German
president, leaving Hitler in control. The
    Holocaust begins.
  • Over the next twelve years, approximately six
million Jews are systematically murdered by the
German government. Their loss is accompanied by
two to three million Russian POWs, 200,000
gypsies, 200,000 disabled persons, and a number
who didnt fit the Nazi ideal.

to repeat it.George SantayanaPhilosopher

Cambodia, Asia
  • In 1976, the government of the Democratic
Kampuchea forced the population out of their
homes, enslaving them in rice fields.
  • The tyranny resulted in 1.5 million deaths, about
20 of the Cambodian population from disease,
    starvation, and murder.

11
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe
  • Beginning on April 7, 1992, ethnic cleansing
    erupted.
  • Bosnian Serbs bombed large majorly Muslim towns.
  • Following, most Muslims were forced to leave
    their homes.

12
Rwanda, Africa
  • In 1994, the Rwandan government encouraged
killing of the Tutsi people carried out by the
    Hutu.
  • The group committed a mass rape of Tutsi women by
HIV- infected men, in the hopes that the women
    would die of the disease.

13
Darfur, Sudan, Africa
  • Today, the Fur, Zaghawa, and Masaalit tribes are
    the targets of genocide.
  • Their villages are burned and bombed, property
stolen, people killed, starved, raped, and
    diseased.
  • More than two and a half million refugees have
    fled their homes thus far.

14
The victims, crimes, and captors vary, but the
inhumanity is constant. Compassion is the only
prevention.
