Authority, Credentials Reviews
  • Author Grant Uden
  • The late Grant Uden had a varied career as a
lecturer in history, teacher, author and head of
a rare books and manuscripts department. He had
a strong interest in British chivalry and the
Middle Ages. Uden was a lifelong collector of
early books, historical documents and pictures -
valuable sources for the books hes written on
    literary and historical subjects.

Personal Impression
  • This is an interesting and detailed book on
knights and chivalry. Straightforward - a good
book for people 12 years and up. The author
really seemed to have a passion for the subject
    matter.

Reference Use Examples
  • What is the Code of Chivalry?
  • I found the Code of Chivalry on a Web Page about
chivalry and courtly love. (On next slide.)
  • http//www.astro.umd.edu/marshall/chivalry.htm
  • Who were the Free Companies?
  • According to a Web Page about Free Companies, the
    Oxford American Dictionary defines free
companies as "professional soldiers serving a
    foreign country."  These professional, paid
troops became a popular practice throughout
Europe in the 14th century.  Both Knights and
commoners under arms were eager to take the money
of anyone wishing to raise an army.
