What is DyKnow Vision? DyKnow Vision is software
designed to allow classroom collaboration through
the use of pen-based technology. It provides
students with a permanent record of what happened
in class, along with their own private comments
about the lecture material. Pen-based computers
and DyKnow Vision address several challenges in
teaching economics helping students grasp
dynamic models from static notes, reducing the
abstraction of course concepts, enabling accurate
and complete note taking by students, alleviating
student tendencies to simply memorize curve
shapes, and pinpointing errors in student thought
processes. One useful technique is converting
static graphs from the textbook into a dynamic
series of sequential components so that students
can see the process of creating the graphs and
the factors that determine the shape and position
of the curves.

I enjoyed using DyKnow throughout the semester.
The program allowed me to have a source for
reference and I could use my notes as a tool for
studying. The playback feature allowed me to more
effectively understand how to construct a graph.
I really liked the DyKnow program that we used
because it helped to keep all of our notes
organized and helped a lot with graphing. The
level of interaction in this class is more than I
have experienced in any other class. There is a
lot of interaction between the students, the
teacher (you) and us that has been very valuable.
I dont think this could have been achieved
outside of the DyKnow classroom. I enrolled in
this class a few semesters ago (2 years I think)
and struggled before dropping the class. I
really think the DyKnow system has been the
difference . DyKnow helps me overcome my
learning disability. Usually I find it difficult
to listen to the professor, think about the
subject, and take notes all at the same time.
With DyKnow I can process the information and
concentrate on ADDING to the professors notes.
Whenever I can, Ill take a class in
DyKnow. Being able to draw on the screen helps
A TON because graphing is a large part of the
class.

Feedback from Faculty about DyKnow DyKnow
hasnt changed my teaching styleit has enabled
me to build in more of the interaction that I
strive for in every course. I use the replay
function a lot, and it can show me where students
get off track when working a problem, especially
on graphing or computations. I love being able
to grade quizzes in DyKnow and then return them
electronically with two clicks of the mouse.
This helped me return graded work much more
promptly this semester. I was worried about
the transition costs of converting my courses to
DyKnow, but it turned out not to be a problem at
all. Its very convenient to pull in my
PowerPoint slides and examples Ive done in Excel
and on my webpage.
