  • Convenient - for part-time students and
    lecturers
  • Flexible - one can learn day or night (no time
    constraints)
  • Standardized teaching material
  • Overcome resource limitations e.g. lecture
    rooms to accommodate the ever growing student
    population
  • Cost effective learning material is prepared
    and accessed more cost effectively,less traveling
    expenses especially for off-campus student
    fraternity
  • Reusability of teaching material and teaching
    tasks advantage of saving time
  • Easier task in updating material
  • Easy to access online content (journals, eBooks)
    especially in writing term papers and in
    research projects

Limitations/Challenges of eLearning in JKUAT
  • Limited access to computers by both students and
    staff
  • Slow, unreliable and inadequate internet access
  • Low computer literacy levels
  • Not all courses and content can be administered
    online
  • Commitment and motivation on both students and
    lecturers to adapt the eLearning framework may be
    wanting
  • Not all can afford internet access and the
    infrastructure required to adapt the model
  • Course overload on students may not give them
    enough time to access eLearning content in a
    blended learning environment
  • Piracy of content for use in other settings
  • Difficult to assess authenticity of work
    submitted by students
