Title: Little Things We Can Do

1
Little Things We Can Do
  • to save our planet

2
You Could Stop Breathing!
  • That would save 500 pounds of carbon dioxide per
    year
  • But the average American is responsible for
    breathing
  • out 40,000 pounds per year so
    that wouldnt help much

3
So what can we do?
4
Let There Be Light!
  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
  • Make sure the lights you turn off (and on) are
    compact fluorescent.
  • Open your shades! Sunlight doesnt pollute and
its better for you than light bulbs (pure
    vitamin D!)
  • Doing this would decrease 2000 pounds
  • of carbon dioxide per year!

5
Three Cheers for Saving Energy!
  • Turn off electronics and unplug them when you are
    through using them. hungry electronics
keep using electricity all night long, did you
    know?
  • Use a power strip to help you
  • Just turning off your computer at night can
    prevent
  • 1000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions every
    year

6
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle 1
  • Use rechargeable batteries.
  • Use a solar charger for your batteries and for
    your ipod and cell phone.
  • When they expire, recycle your batteries.
  • Batteries are the 1 source of
  • dangerous heavy metals in landfills.

7
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle 2
  • Buy recycled paper
  • (100 post-consumer waste).
  • Print on both sides of paper.
  • Better yet e-mail it,
  • bookmark it, save it,
  • but dont print it!
  • When it IS finally used up,
  • recycle your paper.
  • If everyone at school used ONLY recycled paper
it would stop over 50,000 pounds of carbon
    dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
