Big Employers Plan Electronic Health Records BY
GARY MCWILLIAMS
Several big employers are about to deliver an
electronic jolt to the U.S. health-care
system. Next week, Intel Corp., Wal-Mart Stores
Inc., British Petroleum and others will disclose
a plan to provide digital health records to their
employees and to store them in a
multimillion-dollar-data warehouse linking
hospitals, doctors and pharmacies. Their goal
to cut costs by having consumers coordinate their
own health care among doctors and hospitals.

Health care sharing idea will kick off Records
effort aims for better costs, treatment Kansas
City Business Journal December 1, 2006 by Rob
Roberts
Healthe Mid-America will launch a groundbreaking
experiment this month aimed at improving health
care and saving local employers millions by
sharing medical records. The prospect of
reducing adverse drug reactions, medical errors
and duplicate tests by making electronic medical
records accessible to all of a patient's
providers has prompted dozens of communities,
government agencies and hospital systems to
launch regional health information organizations,
or RHIOs. Healthe Mid-America is the nation's
first employer-based RHIO, CEO Jim Hansen said.
