History and Approach of the School Program
  • The School Program is part of the Eating
    Disorders Treatment Program
  • Therefore we subscribe to the adage that
  • Health comes first.
  • We attempt to create a stress reduced learning
    environment

How do we reduce stress in the learning
environment?
  • Consult with students, parents and school based
    staff at in-take
  • Limit the number of courses taken
  • Provide supplementary materials to make the
    curriculum more accessible
  • Set clear expectations for parents and students

  • Transitioning into the Program
  • If your program or course does not lend itself to
    a distance education format, thats O.K
  • Focus on CORE objectives of the course
  • NOTE We are a resource learning center.
  • We help students complete the work that you
    send

  • Include patients in decisions around outstanding
    assignments
  • Be flexible with test/assignment
  • Avoid exposing students to activities that
    negatively draw attention to weight, body image
    or eating disorder
  • Be aware of self deprecating talk and avoid
    commenting on positive lifestyle choices

  • Check in regularly with student
  • Devise a clear graduation plan
  • Consider applying for Ministry Designation (D or
    H) and Aegrotat Standing
  • Make exemptions from courses/parts of courses
  • Consider applying under Special Circumstances to
    post-secondary institutions ( IEP may be
    required)
