Facility Advisory Committee
  • Long standing committee composed of parent
    representatives and District staff serving in an
    advisory role only
  • Assisted the District in facilities related
    issues by making recommendations for
    consideration by the Board.

  • One Representative from each of the 34 schools
  • One Representative from Saddleback Valley
    Teachers Association (SVEA)
  • One Representative from the California School
    Employees Association (CSEA)
  • One Representative from the Saddleback Valley
    Management Team Association (SVMTA)

Tasks for the Facility Advisory Committee
  • Recommend 2 4 schools for possible closures
    complete with data on potential impact on other
    schools and/or District operations for each
    recommended school site.
  • Provide the recommendation to the Board of
    Education for consideration by June 2008.

FAC Evaluation Procedure
  • Develop measurable, objective criteria and a
    scoring system to apply to all 26 schools.
  • Score each school and separate the schools into
    the not good candidate for closure group and
    further evaluation group.
  • Develop a second set of measurable criteria to
    complete a more in-depth analysis of the further
    evaluation group.

FAC Evaluation Procedure
  • IMPORTANT NOTE
  • In the event the FAC determines additional study
    is required, the committee reserves the right to
    reconsider any schools for further study. A
    school that was initially placed in the not a
    candidate group may be moved to the group for
    further study and the second set of criteria
    applied. No school will be ruled out until the
    final study has been completed and a
    recommendation has been submitted to the Board.

FAC Progress Reports
  • Periodic progress reports will be sent to the
    school site principals after regularly scheduled
    meetings.
  • FAC representatives are asked to work closely
    with the principal to provide timely information
    and obtain input.

  • Ultimate Goal
  • Reduce general fund operating expenses due to
    declining enrollment
  • Ensure the Districts long range financial
    stability
  • Consolidating the number of elementary school
    sites to reduce ongoing operating expenses
  • Reducing the transportation costs by realigning
    specific neighborhoods with their local
    elementary school

  • Information is gathered to assist in analyzing
    and evaluating the District enrollment data and
    demographic information
  • The Facility Advisory Committee (FAC) studies the
    prepared data
  • The FAC submits a recommendation to the Board of
    Education by June, 2008.
