BANK OF IRELAND THE FACTS

• The Bank of Ireland employs a total of 16,000
  staff with offices in locations such as Dublin,
  Bristol, London, Reading, Isle of Man and
  Edinburgh
• Bank of Ireland has 1400 staff within the Bristol
  office, and a further 2000 throughout the UK
• The Bank of Ireland provides some of the
  following services to its customers
• Mortgages BOI provides loans via both the
  Bristol West and BOI brands
• Business Banking We offer services to primarily
  medium sized businesses in specialist niches,
  including diverse elements from property finance
  to mezzanine, plus we also finance films!
• The Bank of Ireland also works in partnership
  with the Post Office to provide some of the
  following products to over 2 million customers
• Personal Loans
• Car Insurance / Home Insurance
• Credit Cards
• Savings Accounts
• Foreign currency

Bank of Ireland and diversity

• The Bank in Dublin is around 10 years behind the
  UK market in terms of diversity, despite the
  influx of migrant workers from Eastern Europe,
  although has become the first Irish bank to offer
  accounts in seven different relevant languages
• The Bank does not ask about the ethnicity of its
  workforce and has no statistics, however in the
  UK..
• Through RFO and its benchmarking we have
  significantly raised awareness of the issues, and
  responded
• From around 2 of the workforce from a BME
  background in Bristol three years ago, the
  percentage has increased to nearer 7-8
• Race is now part of the agenda..

• Your workforce provide an insight into the market
  that is unique

• The world is cut throat, and changing fast
• Marks Spencer J Sainsbury became complacent
• Bank of Ireland has to punch above its weight to
  make progress in a crowded market
• We have to innovate

Positive Action

• Bank of Ireland produced one of the first Sharia
  compliant mortgages in partnership with Arab
  International Bank
• Now selling through brokers and Lloyds TSB,
  probably largest UK provider
• Plan to be first to market with Sharia investment
• Significant penetration of Asian business banking
  market
• See Post Office as key distribution for product
• Real benefits to the bottom line

• Bank of Ireland needs great staff for these great
  propositions
• It cant manage this if it only accesses a
  proportion of the workforce
• Biggest change in BME element of workforce around
  well qualified
• Still have a job to do raising expectations
  amongst various communities

Reasons to be proactive

• A diverse workforce can significantly enhance
  your bottom line, however there are other reasons
• Do we wish to create a two tier society?
• Do we wish to confirm all of the prejudices on
  all sides?
• Do we as a business want to make a real
  difference to our community?
• Do we want a sustainable business?
• Do we want to be an inclusive employer?

• We have a long way to go
• Our competitors in many areas are well in advance
  of us
• The penny is dropping
• In five years time our world will be different
  and so will Bank of Ireland!
