The three types of televisions

• CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) - 1926
• Well tested legacy technology
• The larger the screen the larger the box
• LCD (Liquid Crystal Displays) - 1988
• Ideal for smaller homes if you sit near the
  screen
• Pixels might break and viewing angle sometimes
  small
• Plasma Screens - 1999
• They can be very large and extremely thin
• Solarized faces effect disturbing naturalness
  of human faces

• The European industry launched a program in 1993
  to come up with a new standard as television
  sales stagnated
• After introduction sales did not grow
• Disregarding the earlier mentioned features,
  would you buy a widescreen television?

A Widescreen, the pros

• It gives you extra screen space
• It more closely resembles how humans perceive the
  world
• It is the new standard and more and more channels
  will be broadcasting in 169

A Widescreen, the cons

• Currently only 5 to 10 of the european channels
  broadcast widescreen programs
• Watching 43 on a widescreen is not nice as the
  viewing area gets smaller, or the image gets
  malformed
• Buying a new TV is an investment
