    legislation.
  • Title I reaches about 12.5 million students
    enrolled in both public and private schools.

Specific Title I Requirements

  • Coordinate Title I services with the regular
    instructional program, including assisting
    transition from preschool programs.
  • Provide instruction by highly qualified teachers.
  • Provide opportunities for professional
    development.
  • Provide strategies to increase parental
    involvement.

    student academic learning and other school
    activities.
  • Parent input required in Title I, Title II, Title
    III, and Title IV

Parents Right-To-Know Teacher Qualifications
  • Local school divisions receiving Title I funds
    must notify parents at the beginning of each
    school year that they may request and obtain
    information from the division about
    qualifications of staff instructing their
    children in Title I schools.
  • This notice is placed in the student Agenda of
    Title I schools and mailed home to each student.

Teacher Quality and Parent Notification

  • The local school division must ensure that Title
    I schools give timely notice to parents that
    their children have been assigned or have been
    taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a
    teacher who is not highly qualified.
  • This applies to ALL teachers, not just those who
    work in Title I programs
