Intervention
  • Tardy Reduction Implementation
  • 1. Concerns regarding a.m. tardies
  • 2. Data collected
  • 3. Parents informed of No Tardy plan
  • 4. Students taught expectations for being on time
  • 5. Verbal reminder at breakfast
  • 6. a.m. intercom announcement after warning bell
  • 7. Daily data collected
  • 8. Weekly data collected
  • 9. Daily sticker for no tardies
  • 10. p.m. announcement recognizing daily successes
  • 11. weekly class recognition and treats
  • 12. Monthly NO TARDY PARTY

3
Rationale
  • Data was taken to determine if tardies were
    indeed a problem
  • The school wanted to increase amount of students
    arriving on time.
  • The data focused on the High Risk Students.
Tardies decreased for the High Risk Students
moving several to the At-Risk Group.

4
Data indicators
  • The team used data collected from the school
system to count the number of tardies daily,
    weekly, and monthly.

5
Trends and changes in data indicators after
intervention
  • High Risk Students had 68 tardies in September.
  • Comparisons were made month to month.
  • We needed to disaggregate our data to give more
information on who the High Risk students were,
and if they were walkers or bus riders.

6
Implementation Description
  • After data was collected and shared with the
Staff, they realized how many students were
    actually arriving late to class.
  • Positive reinforce such as an Auction and
sharing data with the staff has kept them
    supportive of the intervention.
  • We employed traditional sources of data such as
    attendance records.
  • We customized our data to give us specific
information on the High Risk Student.
  • The intervention will continue through the year.
We learned that sometimes there are factors
which you cannot control. For example, some
parents will bring their children late to school
no matter what you do. Therefore, we will not
    continue this intervention next year.

7
Most recent data
  • As of April, the number of High Risk students who
are late to school/class has dropped from 25
students with 7 or more tardies to 13 students.
The number of tardies are decreasing.
  • This tells us the intervention is working for
most of the students who were arriving late.

8
General Discussion
  • Our process when smoothly this year.
  • We did not achieve our goal to reduce all
tardies, but we did help those students who were
at the top of the triangle.
  • We learned that sometimes there are factors which
you can not control. For example, some parents
will bring their children late to school no
    matter what you do.
  • The UBI journey is a lot of work and takes a lot
of time. If we can help any of the top of the
triangle students, our time is worth it.
